This page covers workshops, professional gatherings and other events within the ADiCu project, as well as the research team’s participation in events focusing on circular construction, digitalisation and construction project management.
In progress
A study on barriers to the adoption of circular approaches in construction is being prepared as part of the ADiCu project. An external service has been commissioned to carry out the study. It will help improve understanding of the barriers faced by stakeholders in the construction sector and provide a basis for the project’s further research activities. Once the study is completed, we will present its key findings on the project website and explain their significance for the development of circular construction.

Interactive kick-off workshop “Let’s Complete the Circle”
(reference: project work plan: 1.5.1., C5, Year 1 – R4)
As part of the project ADiCu – Agile Digitalization for Circular Construction: Unraveling the End of Projects, the research team held a three-day kick-off workshop entitled “Let’s Complete the Circle”.
The workshop focused on developing a shared research vision, connecting the project objectives and defining activities for the first year of implementation. The central question was how to turn the final phases of construction projects into the start of a new cycle of materials, data and value.
Three days: vision, design and action
Day One – VISION focused on developing a shared understanding of the project objectives and the expected contributions by 2031. Through expert presentations and discussion, the research team examined challenges related to regulation and standardisation, digitalisation and BIM, business models, industry applications, and project management and productivity.
Day Two – DESIGN involved developing an initial methodological framework and connecting the research activities. Discussions addressed material and information flows throughout the building life cycle, the needs of future users of the digital tool, and the data required to make decisions on retention, reuse and other ways of handling materials and construction products.
Day Three – ACTION focused on the implementation plan: identifying key stakeholder groups, considering risks, setting priorities for the first project year and agreeing on the research team’s next steps.
Expert perspectives from the research team
The expert panel addressed the following topics:
- Maja-Marija Nahod: connections between the project objectives and the research team’s expected contributions;
- Mladen Tomašković: business models and building life-cycle management;
- Sandra Matuhina: regulation and standardisation for circular construction;
- Matej Mihić: digitalisation, BIM and operational application on construction sites;
- Zvonko Sigmund: the industry perspective and the feasibility of circular solutions;
- Romano Perić: project management, productivity and the final phases of projects.
Conclusions and next steps
The workshop resulted in a shared research vision and an initial framework for project implementation. The following aspects were developed in particular:
- integrating the project objectives into a unified methodological framework;
- an initial map of material and information flows;
- user needs and initial requirements for the ADiCu digital tool;
- arrangements for coordinating and monitoring research activities;
- priority stakeholder groups and possible ways of involving them;
- priorities, responsibilities and next steps for the first project year.
The workshop conclusions provide a starting point for further research. The methodological framework, the concept of the digital tool and proposals for its application will be developed and tested throughout project implementation.
